چکیده
Abstract In the contemporary discussions concerning unconscious perception it is not uncommon to postulate that content and phenomenal character are ‘orthogonal’, i.e., there no type of which essentially conscious, but instead, every representational can be either conscious or not. Furthermore, this merely treated as a thesis justified by theoretical investigations, supported empirical considerations actual functioning human cognition. paper, I address color argue for negative thesis—that main experimental paradigms used in studying do provide support position representations have same content. More specifically, claim significant vision categorically represents surface colors.

Unconscious effects of language-specific terminology on preattentive color perception.
It is now established that native language affects one's perception of the world. However, it is unknown whether this effect is merely driven by conscious, language-based evaluation of the environment or whether it reflects fundamental differences in perceptual processing between individuals speaking different languages. Using brain potentials, we demonstrate that the existence in Greek of 2 co...
متن کاملPerception as Unconscious Interference*
Since antiquity, visual theorists have variously proposed that perception (usually vision) results from unconscious inference. This paper reviews historical and recent theories of unconscious inferences, in order to make explicit their commitments to inferential cognitive processes. In particular, it asks whether the comparison of perception with inference has been intended metaphorically or li...
متن کاملConscious and Unconscious Perception
Contrasting the properties of conscious and unconscious processes is crucial for understanding how consciousness occurs in the brain. In this chapter, we review the theoretical framework and empirical methods used to delineate and contrast conscious vs. unconscious perception. After outlining the main approaches to measure unconscious influences on brain and behavior, we describe some of the ps...
متن کاملPerception as Unconscious Inference
Consider for a moment the spatial and chromatic dimensions of your visual experience. Suppose that as you gaze about the room you see a table, some books, and papers. Ignore for now the fact that you immediately recognize these objects to be a table with books and papers on it. Concentrate on how the table looks to you: its top spreads out in front of you, stopping at edges beyond which lies un...
متن کاملPsychological Investigations of Unconscious Perception
This paper reviews the history of psychological investigations of unconscious perception and summarizes the current status of experimental research in this area of investigation. The research findings described in the paper illustrate how it is possible to distinguish experimentally between conscious and unconscious perception. The most successful experimental strategy has been to show that a s...
